As a pioneer in pediatric care, The Ambassador established the region’s first Pediatric Pulmonary Special Care Unit in 1995. Today, The Ambassador Pediatric Unit is one of only a handful in the nation as well as the only one of its kind in the state of
Under the direction of Pediatric Pulmonologist, Dr. Paul Sammut, The Ambassador Pediatric Unit is staffed with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals, consisting of the following: Registered and Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Medication Aides, Respiratory Therapists, Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapists, Recreational Therapists, a Dietician, and a Licensed Social Worker. The special care unit offers programs tailored to the needs of children from birth to age 21. These may include such clinical needs as: ventilator management, extensive pulmonary rehabilitation, extended health care needs, and multiple medical diseases.
Along with Pediatric Special Care, The Ambassador Omaha also offers Adult Pulmonary Special Care. Under the leadership of the pulmonologists of Midwest Pulmonary Group, a team of dedicated staff including respiratory therapists provide 24-hour care to meet the highly individualized needs of the residents. Following a carefully developed plan of care, the pulmonary staff helps to ensure the pulmonary residents reach their highest individual potential. Short-term weaning candidates are treated aggressively, while long-term patients are given a slower approach. Yet, in every case, the ultimate goal is to enable the resident to gain freedom from ventilator support and preserve the dignity and quality of life that each resident deserves.
Last, The Ambassador Omaha is dedicated to healing and wellness for individuals requiring short term rehabilitation and is proud to offer an inpatient rehabilitation program that offers unparalleled physical, occupational, and speech therapy to individuals who are experiencing cardiovascular, neurological, or orthopedic disorders such as strokes, hip fractures, or other debilitating medical conditions. Each rehabilitative and therapeutic care plan is customized to address the special needs of each of the patients. The overall goal is to identify the optimal level of care to make each patient as independent as possible and to ensure a safe transition home.
