Pulmonary/Respiratory Care
For more than a decade, The Ambassador Omaha has been a regional leader of Pulmonary Special Care. Under the leadership of a Board-Certified Pulmonary Physician, our dedicated staff and team of respiratory therapists provide 24-hour care to meet the highly individualized needs of our residents, who include both adults and children.
Following a carefully developed care plan, our pulmonary staff helps to ensure our pulmonary residents reach their highest individual potential. Short-term weaning candidates are treated aggressively, while long-term patients are given a slower approach. Yet, in every case, our ultimate goal is to enable the resident to gain freedom from ventilator support and preserve the dignity and quality of life while under our care.
A homelike alternative to the hospital setting, The Ambassador Omaha’s Pulmonary Special Care Unit provides all the latest respiratory devices and services needed for individual rehabilitation including:
- Piped-in oxygen
- In-line suction
- Hospital, pediatric, and portable home ventilators
- State-of-the-art electric beds
- IV Therapy
- TPN Administration
- Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy

We not only work together to ensure the most positive outcomes for our residents, but also to support the families and staff who enable us to successfully achieve our goals, time and time again. There are many support areas that enable us to do this including:
- Rehabilitation Unit – specializing in orthopedic and pulmonary care, the unit provides such services as physical, occupational, and speech therapy to adults and children.
- Transitional Care Unit – supports residents requiring tracheostomy support, respiratory care, and IPPB and CPT treatments.
- Activities Department – Staffed by Certified Therapeutic Recreational Therapists, the department offers reality-based activities, as well as adult and pediatric recreational activities.
- Registered Dietician – On-staff and on-site, the highly experienced, registered dietician coordinates diet-sensitive menus fro residents.
- Pharmacy Services – An integral part of the care team, the pharmacy staff administers on-site medications, performs monthly medication reviews and helps to ensure optimal medication integration.
- Admissions Department – Our Admission Coordinators work to streamline the admissions process and paperwork. In addition, they facilitate the relationship between the resident and his or her managed care and alternate payor sources.
- Respiratory Therapists –The Ambassador Pediatrics staff represents a diverse range of specially trained pediatric professionals, including: pediatric nurses, physicians, social workers, nutritionists, and even a pediatric recreation specialist. Together, they are instrumental in achieving the necessary resolts.
